It’s that time of year again. Eden 2014 promises “a whole garden of treats” and after the glory of last year we can take their word for it. Now firmly entrenched in Scotland’s festival culture, Dumfries & Galloway’s eco-focused Eden opens its elm gates again from the 12th – 15th June with a line-up to make the most stiff-lipped gentleman to shed a tear and this time it even starts on the Thursday, just to make sure you get your money’s worth. It’s worth mentioning here that, like last year, kids under 12 go free!
Eden contains eleven stages huddled together in a bowl near Moffat and Dumfries, and truly encompasses an eclectic mix: from Rabbie’s Tavern (a celtic pub) to the hammock-filled Vishnu Lounge and on into the mysterious and dark Voltans Psychedelic Temple. These will host all sorts of bands, musicians, comedians and performers. So what about the line up? Well…
Top of the list is De La Soul (which means “of the soul”); a playful hip hop trio from that happy part of the 90’s, if you haven’t heard them be sure to check them out. Bez from the Happy Monday’s is bringing his Acid House along too but one name that will immediately pop out is Artful Dodger. It can be predicted there’ll be quite a few people movin’ too fast at that point in the weekend. Add in The Nextmen and Howard Marks and you’d be forgiven for thinking you’d stepped back in time.
But you’d be wrong. It’s still very much 2014, Glasgow’s Mungo’s Hi Fi return no doubt looking to fill the tent again. Here’s a recent mix of theirs to give you a taste if you haven’t witnessed them yet:
In a similar vein we’ll be treated to Prince Fatty and Dreadsquad, this year’s definitely going to have a bounce to it!
The Electric Swing Circus will be wooing the crowd with, you guessed it, electro-swing. We’ve yet to hear of anyone seeing them live being disappointed so they’re definitely not to be missed. Victorian Trout Conspiracy are back again too, last year the rising ska stars gave an electric performance that will be hard to beat but we have faith, with their energy, they’ll manage!
If you like the look of that make time to see Esperanza, their tropical ska will make you forget you’re in Scotland! Speaking of forgetting where you are, Colonel Mustard & The Dijon 5 have been invited back. We stumbled upon them last year and all we can say is their live performance packs a punch. Here’s a wee taste:
That’s just a tiny taste of what Eden Festival has in store for us this year, over 250 acts are performing over the weekend and we’ve just selected some of the ones we’re looking forward to most. To find out more about the festival, buy tickets, or finally get around to planning your travel there and back head to www.edenfestival.co.uk or find them on Facebook. There’s not long to go and we’re itching to kick off festival season properly.
